Welcome

The Andrew de Moray project was created in order to promote knowledge about the place of Andrew de Moray and his family in the history of Scotland and the Wars of Independence.

A little background...

Andrew de Moray led the rising against King Edward I of England in the North of Scotland. De Moray successfully regained control of Scotland north of the River Forth for Scotland's King John in the summer of 1297. In the Fall, De Moray and his men joined forces with the troops of William Wallace to free Scotland from Edward I 's occupying forces and won a monumental victory at the Battle of Stirling Bridge. This is a live web site with an ongoing programme of activities to preserve and upgrade the site of Ormonde Castle in Avoch. The project welcomes your help to promote the name and fame of Andrew de Moray whose North Rising is celebrated on the third Saturday in May each year.
